A British teenager is believed to be on the run with a waiter she met while on holiday in Turkey.

Faye Jones, 16, from Northumberland flew to popular beach resort Marmaris with her mother Rhonda to visit her grandmother who lives in the country, but has not been seen for three days since she ran off with Murat Can Ertani, 22, known as "Can".

The Daily Mail reports that Turkish police say Ertani is a criminal and has spent time in jail.

According to The Sun, the pair met the last time Faye was in Marmaris and kept in touch via Facebook.

Faye's mum Rhonda fears she will never see her daughter again and told the Sunday People: "She has nothing – no money, no passport, no clothes.

"I thought she was just being wilful and would be home before bedtime. But it has been three days. I'm terrified for her. It's killing me."

The Sunday People reports that Faye's friendship with Ertani led to trouble when he slapped her friend at a nightclub.

Following the incident, Rhonda booked a flight home for her and Faye but before leaving for the airport, Faye took her suitcase and fled.
