An Irishman has died in Australia after falling from a moving taxi following a dispute over the fare.

Ryan Doyle, 25, from Leitrim, just outside Castlewellan, died from injuries he received when a taxi driver allegedly accelerated as he stepped out of a cab in Perth.

According to The Sun, police have charged the taxi driver with dangerous driving occasioning death, failure to stop and render assistance, and failure to report an accident.

It is thought Ryan and another man became involved in an argument with the driver about their fare after being picked up outside a casino.

Ryan moved to Australia two years ago, and had been living with his brothers Ronan and Kevin, who took to Facebook to speak of their loss.

Kevin said: "Ya weren't just my brother you were my friend ,we did everything together!

"My life will never be the same, I love you lad!"

According to the BBC, police said in a statement that they were told Mr Doyle was lying on the road in Leake Street, Belmont, at about 3:00 GMT.

The statement said. "It will be alleged there had been a dispute between the victim and the driver over the fare and as the passenger was exiting the vehicle the driver accelerated the vehicle, causing the passenger to fall to the ground where he received life-threatening injuries.

"He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where he later died as a result of the injuries he received."

The taxi driver will appear in Perth Magistrates Court on 18 December and could face ten years in jail if convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.
