England football stars' girlfriends are clubbing together to hire a private jet to whisk them in and out of the Euro 2012 championships in Ukraine - over fears for their safety.

Following scare stories about the threat of violence and racism from "thuggish fans" in Poland and Ukraine, the WAGs decided flying in for the games and jetting out again on the same day would be the safest option.

The move came after families of black England stars Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain said they would not attend the games for fear of being targeted.

A source told The Sun: "The idea is that they'll club together and pool the cost.

"There have been a lot of scare stories and the players don't want their WAGs to be put in any jeopardy."

Former England star Sol Campbell recently said UEFA was wrong in its decision to allow Poland and Ukraine to host the tournament as it put supporters in danger of racist attacks from local gangs.

He said: "Stay at home, watch it on TV. You could come back in a coffin."

The WAGs are no doubt used to travelling in style. Discover some of the most luxurious airlines here:
