Video: Hot Wheels leap smashes car jump record

It would have been hard for the pre-race show at the Indy 500 to top the excitement of the main event, but one of the American Top Gear presenters did his best when he broke the world record for the longest jump in a four-wheeled vehicle.

Tanner Foust, the 37-year-old stunt driver, leapt 332 feet in a ramp-to-ramp jump intended to promote Mattel's popular Hot Wheels toy.

The gimmick, dubbed 'Fearless at the 500', included a 90-foot descent built to resemble the instantly recognisable plastic orange track which had been 'hung' from a giant 10-storey door.
