20 minimal nail designs to inspire your festive manicures
When it came to nails in 2022, one key trend reigned supreme: the milky-nude manicure. The nail equivalent of 'no make-up make-up', semi-transparent creamy-neutral polish has elevated our manicures to read high-end yet low maintenance.
By its very nature, this manicure style makes the perfect base for our other love in nails – understated art. Fine lines, metallic flashes and minuscule symbols look just as mesmerising now as when the trend took over our nail salons and Instagram feeds pre-pandemic.
Originally coined the 'virgin manicure', this neutral-based minimal nail art was pioneered by Ukrainian nail artists. Kiev’s MVK salon were trailblazers of nail designs featuring thin lines, understated geographic shapes and floral motives, challenging perceptions of minimalism. Ignoring seasonal trends, MVK's creative director Viktoria Kolodiy and her team concentrate on creating original yet timeless styles that go with everything. "The virgin manicure is kind of the little black dress by Coco Chanel," Kolodiy feels. The simplicity and elegance of these designs are a "win-win option for special occasions and in addition to everyday outfits".
Indeed, in December this is the perfect manicure option for the festivities. As you'll see from the designs below, foils, metallic paints and glitter finishes make for the perfect addition to nude or naked nails. Below, see some of our favourite subtly fabulous nail art designs to inspire you.
