The $2.99 ALDI Find I Wait All Year for Is Finally Back
It tastes like fall.
For me, it’s finally pumpkin spice time. Don’t hit me with this seasonal flavor in September—it’s still summer in my mind.
Now that the days are shorter and there’s a chill in the air, give me all of the pumpkin spice you can offer. So, that’s why I was absolutely delighted to discover ALDI’s two seasonal whipped creams: Friendly Farms Pumpkin Spice and Red Velvet Whipped Dairy Topping.
Why I Love ALDI's Flavored Whipped Toppings
For starters, this whipped froth of deliciousness begins with real cream, milk, and cane sugar. Second, a 13-ounce container costs only $2.99.
The pumpkin spice comes out of the canister a light orange color (from annatto—the same coloring used for cheddar cheese), and you can smell the cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. It’s a subtle aroma, but it’s there. The flavor is creamy and sweet, with just the right amount of pumpkin spice—it’s not hit you over the head pumpkin spice—but a pleasant, gentle spice.
The red velvet is a light pink color. The topping contains real cocoa powder, so it’s pink, but there’s a tinge of brown cocoa, too. The pink coloring comes from vegetable juice, which is a nice touch. It tastes just like a red velvet cake but in whipped cream form.
How I Use ALDI's Flavored Whipped Toppings
Both are so, so good, but I think my favorite (surprisingly) is the red velvet. It’s absolutely perfect on a cup of hot cocoa, and it’s also great on a hot fudge sundae. Naturally, it pairs well with cake, too, but not just red velvet—plain vanilla and plain chocolate cake are good matches as well.
I also think it would taste great on top of chocolate mousse and chocolate pudding, and I know for a fact that it tastes really good on top of a homemade mocha.
The pumpkin spice goes really well with coffee, too, and if you like whipped cream on your pumpkin pie, this is a good choice. Pumpkin cake, pumpkin bread, and pumpkin muffins are also suitable palettes to dollop this whipped cream on.
Like the red velvet, the pumpkin whipped cream also goes really well on ice cream sundaes, but I’d go with caramel topping instead of hot fudge. With the spice, it would also pair really nicely with pecan pie.
Years ago, my then-favorite Mexican restaurant owner once made me a pumpkin pie margarita, and this would taste so, so good on top of such a drink.
