There are so many delicious ways to use it.

The first time I had authentic Swiss fondue, I was at my friend’s cousin’s home in Lucerne, Switzerland.

We were traveling over Semana Santa—holy week or, for us, spring break from our classes in Madrid—and I had never tasted a fondue so amazing. It was made with just shredded cheese, a little wine, a little flour, and then it was finished with a splash of cherry kirsch. It was so good yet so simple.

Well, ALDI has made fondue even simpler by bringing back its Emporium Selection Swiss & Gruyère shredded cheese.

What I Love About ALDI's Swiss & Gruyère Shredded Cheese

ALDI has many varieties of shredded cheese blends on its shelves this summer, and this one is a favorite. It combines earthy Gruyère with lighter Swiss, and a half-pound bag of shreds only costs $2.89. You can also find Gouda shreds, but my favorite is the Gruyère and Swiss blend, which is absolutely the perfect blend for fondue!

How I Use ALDI's Swiss and Gruyère Shredded Cheese

Yet, fondue is not the only dish you can make with these delicious shreds. It’s also fantastic as an upgrade for potatoes Anna, a cake of thinly sliced potatoes (if you are pressed for time, you can use ALDI’s canned potatoes) with butter, salt, and pepper. It’s a stepped-up version of au gratin potatoes, and the cheese makes it heavenly.

It’s also great for mac 'n cheese, especially if you throw in some Gouda or cheddar shreds—that combo is fantastic.

I also think it’s so fantastic in a croque monsieur or croque madame—ham and cheese sandwiches with a bechamel sauce or topped with an egg. If you like crêpes, you could make a croque monsieur crêpe with this cheese blend, which would be absolutely divine.

It also makes a mean French onion soup, and I think a handful of shreds mixed with scrambled eggs takes them to another level. Speaking of eggs, it’s also great for quiche, especially quiche Lorraine, and it is equally good for frittatas and breakfast casseroles of all kinds.

I also use this blend for roasted veggies. With the farmers markets in full swing, I usually buy whatever is freshest, then roast it at 375°F in my convection oven. About five minutes before the veggies are done roasting, I take the pan out of the oven, then sprinkle a handful of this cheese blend on top for absolutely crave-able veggies.
