According to new research conducted in America, 40 per cent of black-owned businesses were forced to shut down, compared with 15 per cent of those owned by white people, in the period between February and April 2020. The Guardian reports that black business owners also face greater difficulty in getting access to the funds necessary to keep their enterprise afloat - and are twice as likely to have loan applications rejected in comparison to white business owners - due to not having pre-existing relationships with established banks.
