Earlier this week, we all celebrated and slightly wept over the fact it’s been 15 years since Legally Blonde came out (?!) Even Reese Witherspoon decided to slip back into character for a little while by trying on her old Elle Woods outfits- she’s still got it (like we ever doubted her).

Seriously. 😂💖 #LegallyBlonde15

I thought it was time to ‘think pink’ in celebration of the anniversary and to look back over some of the famous Elle Woods moments that we can all relate too.

A good film will teach us things from time to time and this film is no exception, with its wit and charm, it teaches us many lessons that we can use in everyday life - you should never be assumed of anything just because of you appearance.

Brains and beauty go hand in hand and no skirt length, colour of outfit or how much makeup you wear dumbs you down in any way so why do people think it does? Legally Blonde goes onto explore this and slams the stereotypes at the same time and you know what, we salute you.

1) Set your mind to anything and you can do it

Now this one is pretty basic and your parents probably gave you this speech a billion and one times but it’s very true. Unless you’re thinking of gaining some kinda of X-Men/Deadpool mutation then I suggest you leave those kinda things alone, but 9/10 times you can pretty much do anything. Elle was no stranger to handwork and competition and look at her, she got into Harvard.

2) Exercise is good for your body and mind

In this day and age you’re either really up for exercising or you’re just not but the benefits mentally of exercise are incredible (and physically obviously). Exercise releases endorphins which will make you feel happy and it’s something people suggest if you’re struggling with your mental health too - however big or small, being active can have a vast effect on your mood and even Elle knew this.

3) Life is tough, but you’re tougher

Life is hard and the older we get, the more we just wanna curl up in a blanket burrito and shut the world out but no - don’t do that, or at least save it for Sunday. Whenever you feel like giving up, just think back to when Vivian was trying to up one on Elle and she didn’t back down cos she’s a blonde badass and that’s exactly what you’ve gotta do! When you find your 'Vivian’ of the day, be a badass and take it head on because who’s afraid of a little challenge?

4) Knowledge is power, use what you know and make it work

You don’t have to know everything about science or politics, your own knowledge on what you like will get you places, now that’s not to say you stop learning because that’s not the best idea but any kind of knowledge is power and you can use it to your advantage - much like Elle did in winning her court case by her knowledge on hair care. Look at game shows, it’s a mixture of bits and bobs and knowing something is better than knowing nothing at all - own it.

5) Know your worth

Boy drama. Girl drama. Any kind of drama is exhausting, I mean you get to your twenties and you think you left all this kinda stuff back in school but obviously not. Some situations are definitely more tricky than others but always know your worth, who needs negativity and someone treating you like the stuff they stepped in? Um, nobody. Get rid of those who don’t think you’re as great as you are or who try to pull you down, like I said, the days go quick and if it were me I would definitely not wanna spend those days with someone like that. Swish your hair and say goodbye to those people cos you’re always good enough.

6) First impressions aren’t always everything

They are important but not always vital and a lot of the time you’ll probably have a second impression, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself and your personality will shine through plus if people are going to judge you without knowing you then let me, hey it’s their loss right? Plus if they don’t get to know you then a) you can prove them wrong and b) you can show them how fabulous you really are, bonus.

image

7) Always believe in yourself

Probably the most vital lesson EVER. Always believe in yourself cos you are great and you’ll have your moments like everyone does but hey, you’re here and you’re amazing. As Eleanor Roosevelt said “No-one can make you feel inferior without your consent”.

Legally Blonde still holds dear to our hearts as one of this generation’s greatest ‘chick flicks’, could we maybe hope for a third instalment?! Probably highly unlikely but we can watch them over and over to pass the time in the meantime.
