La Lonja
Abaco Cocktail Bar
Some call it kitsch but that’s part of the allure of this fêted Palma institution housed in a former 18th-century palace. The prices are astronomical but it’s worth a peek if only to wonder at the extravagant and opulent décor of fruit, flowers, and Baroque period furniture. There are enough weeping candles to make Miss Havisham feel at home and cocktails such as Abaco, a fusion of rum, whisky and Grand Marnier, hit the right spot. Every Friday night rose petals descend from the celling to the sound of classical music. Of course it’s cheesy but it's also strangely mesmerising.

Wineing
This innovative cocktail bar-cum-wine tasting emporium offers customers the opportunity to sample some of the most expensive local and global wines by the glass via enomatic machines. For cocktail lovers, there are plenty of choices too and the champagne flows freely. A casual and flavoursome tapas menu of olives, pintxos, cheeses and charcuterie is on offer as well as moreish desserts. There’s a really welcoming and friendly vibe here and there’s no pressure to imbibe costly vintages. Beatnik Restaurant & Bar
The hedonistic and balmy rooftop bar at Puro Hotel, one of the city’s hippest joints, attracts a stylish and cosmopolitan crowd. It is de rigueur to look effortlessly urbane while supping a glass of champagne or Beatnik Spritz, the bar’s signature fruity cocktail. Guests can enjoy a menu of appetising savoury tapas and salads either on the candlelit terrace or for a novel experience, in one of the dual rooftop towers.Various DJs play a funky selection of playlists that include international pop, jazz and soul sounds. Café Atlántico
Atlántico is a bar with attitude that was founded in the Fifties and originally named Texas Jack because of the many visiting US marines stationed in ships nearby. Along with a friendly and inviting atmosphere, sweeping bar and walls crammed with memorabilia, messages and photos, 40 tempting cocktails are offered. Highlights include Labios Caliente, (hot lips) – a spicy and flowery brew – and Dark Stormy, a heady mix of rum, lemon and ginger beer. Snacks are offered as well as a good selection of beers, spirits and vermouths. The bar plays a fun selection of Seventies and Eighties rock, which attracts a lively weekend crowd.

Door 13
Discreet Door 13 is the latest chic offering for the city’s in-crowd. With a Twenties vintage vibe, Chesterfield sofas, low lighting and Persian-style rugs, this is a cosy den to relax and unwind in. The eclectic décor includes a pair of huge feathered wings hanging from the ceiling. Gaining entrance requires nerve. Established clients, in James Bond style, key in a secret entry code at the forbidding wrought iron door while newbies need to ring the bell. Experienced mixologists prepare delights such as gin and organic cherry tomato, while acoustic live music is served up from 11pm at weekends.

Sant Jaume
La Rosa Vermutería
This cheery hangout, tucked away in Plaça Weyler, is for vermouth aficionados: it offers glasses by the barrel or from a selection of vermouth brands. Wines and beers are also served but vermouth is king. Aromatic and seasonal tapas such as fresh prawns, grilled artichokes, patatas bravas, and crispy squid are prepared from a contemporary bar adorned with bunches of braided chillies and plump garlic. With its mellow background music, white brick walls and comfy leather banquettes, the bar has a warm and welcoming ambience. Staff members are helpful with menu choices too. El Camino
As the hottest, slickest and most talked about arrival in Palma, it’s little surprise to learn that the co-creator of El Camino is Eddie Hart, founder of Barrafina in London. Poised and stylish, this eaterie oozes confidence with its marble topped speakeasy bar, mirrored wall and perky line up of red bar stools. There’s an old style Parisian glamour to the gold wall lights, while the menu pulsates with tempting creations. Take your pick from tapas such as grilled artichokes or spicy ceviche and enjoy an inspired wine list with Majorcan bodegas given star billing as well they should.

Mercat
Café L’Antiquari
Eclectic, eccentric, bohemian and brimming with character, L’Antiquari is set on two levels and is the ultimate laid back, snug retreat for an all-day snack, late-night beer or glass of wine. The place is a transformed antique shop, full of knick-knacks, vintage objects d’art and curios, and has a warm and inviting ambience. Regulars flock here for the homemade tapas and famed quiche and salad, and there’s a good choice of spirits and wine too. If you can find a seat, head for the terrace to listen to live music thanks to the street musicians who regularly play here.

Santa Catalina
Hotel Hostal Cuba and Sky Bar
Straddling a prized corner spot on the edge of hip Santa Catalina is the century-old landmark Hotel Hostal Cuba. Blue Jazz Club
You don’t have to be a jazz junkie to enjoy renowned Blue Jazz Club with its fabulous rooftop position overlooking the harbour. With regular performances from local and international artists from Thursday to Saturday and a jamming session every Monday night, this is one of the city’s most vibrant and popular venues for a cocktail or dinner. The open-plan restaurant has stylish modern décor in neutral tones, and comfy wicker furniture – though the pièce de résistance is the lovely terrace with its spectacular vistas. Run by award-winning master cocktail creator, Rafa Martín, Brassclub is one of the capital’s most polished and urbane hangouts. It oozes class and confidence from the smartly attired bartenders in their aprons and bowties, to the cool jazz sounds and exquisitely presented cocktail creations. Expert mixologists can create any desired concoction though signature cocktails such as Mai Tai Egg, a rum, Ancho Reyes liqueur and lime creation served in a nest is hard to beat.
