Easter trees are becoming a much-loved tradition in the UK as we embrace one of the few opportunities this side of Christmas to decorate with a bit of fun and frivolity.

They have long been an important part of Easter celebrations in Germany and Austria, originating from the custom of decorating branches to celebrate the arrival of spring.

There are plenty of pre-made Easter trees available from the likes of Lights4fun and Hobbycraft, but as they are invariably small and sit tabletop, they aren't terribly demanding to make from scratch.

Painted Easter tree

Fill a tea tin with floral foam and insert blooming branches. Hang painted wooden eggs (you can paint them with glossy spray paint or acrylic paint) using a length of ribbon looped around the egg and hold in place with a dot of glue and a wooden craft bead.

Rustic Easter tree

Keep it very simple with this look. Simply cut some branches from the garden and gather in a glass vase. Then hang painted eggs and ornaments of all sizes and colours from its limbs.

Hanging garlands are an impactful alternative to an Easter tree, most often made with pliable branches like pussy willows, and decorated with foliage, spring blooms, and pastel-coloured eggs.
