10 minimalist outfits that you'll want to recreate this season
Maximalists, take a beat. You might want to sit this one out. The eternally chic minimalist outfit trend is taking the streets by storm – one neutral blazer at a time.
Once upon a time, Instagram was a place of high drama. Influencers inspired wild envy in their followers with glitzy arm candy and dazzling shoe collections that even Carrie Bradshaw would have pined after.
As we live and breathe, in 2023 the Insta-landscape is almost unrecognisable. Pared back separates, neutral colour palettes and achingly simple silhouettes have replaced all things extra, as far as some of our wardrobe wish lists are concerned.
How to build a minimalist wardrobe
For those wanting to cut back on striking, less wearable trends, the minimalist aesthetic will be right up your street. The vibe is classic cool – and you'll have to adapt your wardrobe accordingly.
First and foremost, stock up on pieces by fashion editor-adored labels. Get reacquainted with the French mid-price brands – think Musier Paris, Réalisation Par, Rouje, Elleme, The Frankie Shop and American Vintage (don't be fooled). Keep an eye out for timeless plain white tank tops, crisp shirts, flattering jeans, quality tailoring and understated accessories.

The key here is to centre around a largely neutral colour palette – this will come in handy when it comes to pairing separates. Embrace clean white, cream, dusty khaki, camel, French navy, grey and jet black – colours that lend themselves to mixing and matching without too much strenuous thought.
For spring, linen will stand you in excellent stead. Airy, breathable and synonymous with relaxed silhouettes, the flax plant-derived textile works really well for blazers or slouchy trousers. Silk is great for slinky slip dresses and bias-cut midi skirts, as is satin. Cotton poplin shirts are a minimalist’s must-have, and for knitwear this season we adore fine crochet styles as well as lightweight cropped cardigans.
