Sir Bruce Forsyth has passed away at the age of 89. He was recognised as having the world's longest TV career, and was behind some of the most popular programmes ever made.

Here, we take a look at just some of Brucie's best bits...

1. The Generation Game: Having the audience in the palm of his hand

Bruce was in his element as host of this classic BBC game show from 1971 to 1977, and again from 1990 to 1994. He knew exactly how to take the mickey out of his guests in a way that was never offensive. And he helped make the conveyor belt round a TV classic.

2. Strictly Come Dancing: Showing off his tapdancing skills in his eighties

Just because he was nearing his seventh decade in showbiz, that didn't mean he felt the need to slow down. This lovely clip sees him dancing with young Billy Elliot star Josh Fedrick in a generation-passing moment.

3. Singing with Miss Piggy on The Muppets

You know you've made it big when you star in your own episode of The Muppets, in which he took on Statler and Waldorf, danced with a huge bird (not that one) and best of all, sang a tune on the piano with Miss Piggy.

4. His classic catchphrases

There aren't many people who are known for at least TWO catchphrases and a striking pose. You knew you were in for a night of great telly when Brucie did his 'Thinker' pose and followed it up with "nice to see you, to see you…". And then there was also a few bursts of "didn't they do well?"

5. Taking over the Glastonbury stage

In 2013, Bruce became the oldest performer in Glastonbury history when he put on an extremely fun set on the Avalon Stage, complete with big band, jokes and tapdancing.

6. Play Your Cards Right: Being a naughty scamp

One of his most iconic game shows, The Price Is Right was the perfect platform for Bruce to connect with his audience – either in the studio or the millions at home. No matter how many double-entendres were uttered or how many 'dollies' he introduced, it never felt smutty, just friendly and fun.

7. Have I Got News For You: Hosting the most fun news quiz ever

You can see it in regular team captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop's faces – they're having the best time ever. It was a stroke of genius bringing in Brucie to host an episode, including a brilliant conveyor belt segment. We would have watched a whole series of this.

8. The Price Is Right: His 'wrong' microphone gags

Bruce scored yet another hit with The Price Is Right in the 1990s, and one of the funniest running gags was his assistants handing him objects that weren't his trusty mic. You can see his influence on the likes of Ant & Dec when seeing silly skits like this.

9. Playing a proper baddie in Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Bruce also had a few stints as an actor, and one of his most famous appearances came as a shady spiv who gave Emelius a hard time. It just didn't seem right seeing Bruce as a bad guy, but he was very convincing.

10. Popping up in Magnum PI

Yep, this actually happened, and it was glorious. Bruce obviously played a game show host in the US series fronted by Tom Selleck. Sadly, the two mustachioed TV greats didn't meet on screen.
