Corner Suite at Raffles at the OWO

One of the most buzzed-about openings in the capital for a while, Raffles at the Old War Office finally makes its (rather grand) entrance to the London hotel scene this autumn. Of course, there are staggering suites to be found within this heritage building on Whitehall, which, as the name suggests, was used by political and military leaders including Winston Churchill.

Below the turrets of the Edwardian Baroque building are the hotel’s Corner Suites, all of which are named after famous women, including Churchill’s wife Clementine and female spies of note. The art deco decor would look at home on an ocean liner, and each has a marble bathroom and a dining table that seats six, so you can share the space with a select few.

Mayfair Suite at Claridge’s

Claridge’s is a London institution, which naturally has seen its fair share of drama over the course of its history. It has offered refuge to royalty, world leaders and Hollywood stars since the mid 19th century. Matching the art deco ballroom that is the hotel’s centrepiece are the Mayfair Suites, which mix Twenties touches with more modern details, including walk-in wardrobes, marble bathrooms and out-of-sight tech.

Other details include silks, velvet and tassels, in a nod to the decor of Empress Eugenie of France’s winter quarters at Claridge’s, which is where she entertained Queen Victoria.
