The study’s findings revealed that people who had “dark triad personality traits,” such as narcissism, machiavellianism and psycopathy, were more likely to maintain friendships with their exes for “practical and sexual reasons.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, men also rated the importance of said reasons as more important than women did. The study first polled 340 people on the reasons for staying friends with their ex. The 500 participants were also given a personality test to identify levels of the dark triad.
