I’ve Seen a Dozen Removable Wallpapers, and This Is Hands-Down the Easiest to Install

Peel-and-stick wallpaper might be my favorite DIY material ever because it allows you to experiment with color, pattern, and texture in one fell swoop — and it’s a reversible, rental-friendly project. So why is it that many people have so much trouble moving this idea off of their Pinterest boards and into real life? Probably because there’s still a learning curve with installation, and even though this material is practical, it’s not inexpensive.

I’ve seen a bunch of peel-and-stick companies come onto the home decor scene over the years, and I truly think there’s not a bad one in the bunch. But my latest discovery might be the easiest-ever temporary wallpaper to install: JCampbell.design.

Why Is JCampbell.design Wallpaper So User-Friendly to Install?

Sometimes peel-and-stick wallpaper can be difficult to “hang” because long, large rolls can be unwieldy — and some versions of the paper are stickier than others, making the repositioning of panels and pieces tricky as you peel off the backing and try to line up seams. That’s not the case with JCampbell.design Wallpaper Sheets, which are sold in a 13×19-inch size that’s super manageable to install, even for a solo DIYer.

Instead of “peeling” and “sticking,” these removable patterned sheets are spritzed with water (or can be submerged in a sink or tray filled with water) to activate the paste. Then you simply “book” the sheet by loosely folding it in half, and letting it sit for a minute or two so it can relax. Unfold it, and press it paste-side onto the wall — and rub downwards and outwards along the paper with a slightly damp sponge or paper towel to smooth it out and remove excess water (if tiny bubbles appear, they’ll likely dissipate, but you can always do a little extra smoothing yourself, too).

Reposition if necessary, as you’d do with any temporary wall paper. And that’s it. The paste should dry in five to 10 minutes. To remove the sheets, all you have to do is peel them off the wall, starting at the corner. You can dampen the paper with a sponge if you’re having trouble. I did a demo of installing and removing the paper, though, and it really does peel away from the wall quite easily — with no damage done underneath.

What’s so special about these sheets is they’re organic, made in the U.S., and designed so that the repeat is very easy to spot and align because every sheet is exactly the same. A lot of love — and time — went into the development of the paste, sheets, and patterns. The brand was founded by Julie Campbell, an artist and wall appliqué industry leader who sold her Wallies wall decal business to the McCall Pattern company in the ’90s.

What Kind of Patterns are JCampbell.design Wallpaper Sheets Available In?

Patterns are another strength of JCampbell.design. I love the fact that Julie has found a way to make iconic paintings by Van Gogh and Cezanne wallpaper-ready by zeroing in on some of the master artists’ signature brushstrokes and decorative motifs, respectively. She also has a lovely arboreal pattern as well as a handful of floral and foliage designs. You’ll also find a selection of William Morris prints, including the iconic Willow Bough. Several fool-the-eye prints are available, too, including a faux brick and faux tile.
