The former All-Star Family Fortunes host is no stranger to the Radio 2 audience as he has previously covered for Ball when she has been off.

He also had a show on Radio 1 for eight years and presented on Radio X between 2015 and 2017.

It was recently announced that Radio 2's Book Club would become a part of Ball's morning show.

Since launching in 2010, the Book Club has been a part of Drivetime, Jo Whiley's evening show and Steve Wright's afternoon broadcast with Ball's morning show its new home.

In a statement, Ball said: “The best escapism for me has always been to get lost in another world in a good book, where our imaginations are sparked, tested and tickled by ingenious authors on wild, winsome and often thoroughly emotional journeys. The Radio 2 Book Club has a top notch track record for recommending the best reads, and we’d love our listeners to share their thoughts and discoveries with us whether from a well-loved or exciting new author."

She added: "I extend a very warm welcome to everyone to join us for The Radio 2 Book Club in its brand new home on my Breakfast Show and can’t wait to be the bookish ringmaster, bringing authors and listeners together to chat all things literary!”
