In support of the Time’s Up movement and the women who have spoken up about their own experience of sexual assault, harassment, and gender inequality, the red carpet was a sea of black dresses and all-black suits. Yahoo Lifestyle was on the red carpet to catch up with the stars taking part.
“We are wearing black as an act of solidarity with one another, with women in this industry, but also in industries and communities across the world,” Emma Watson said, “because this issue is global.”
Alongside British activist Marai Larasi, executive director of the organization Imkaan, which has been working to end violence against minority women and children, Watson explained the narrative behind the movement that goes beyond the red carpet — a sentiment that’s being illustrated with #whywewearblack. As people across the country and the globe share their own photos wearing black, along with their own stories, Hollywood’s leading ladies and men are using their platform to make a call to all industries.
Watch what some of the stars had to say about why they wore black.
