Zendaya is consistently one of our favourite stars to look out for on the red carpet, and she certainly pulled out all the stops at the 2021 Oscars. The 93rd Academy Awards was originally postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions, but eventually took place last night - albeit in a much smaller, more intimate capacity than usual.
However, while other award ceremonies have had to go virtual this year, it did mean that we were treated to a physical red carpet, with guests attending a live ceremony in Los Angeles, as well as via hubs in London and Paris. Zendaya arrived wearing a flouro yellow Valentino Couture gown, which consisted of a bandeau top and cut-away bodice, before descending into a flowing full-length skirt.
She accessorised her standout look with matching neon heels and glittering Bulgari jewellery, and wore her hair long and centre-parted, in loose curls.
But while the dress looked statement-making enough on the red carpet, it wasn't until we had a behind-the-scenes look at the gown that its true hue really came to light. Zendaya's stylist Law Roach shared a series of pictures and video clips of the dress hanging up before the ceremony, which demonstrated that the luminous gown appeared to gently glow in the dark.
"Neon dream," Roach wrote as the caption, before thanking Valentino's creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli.
The stylist, who has been working with Zendaya for a long time, also shared a video of the singer-actress arriving at the awards in LA, wearing a matching neon mask.
This isn't the first time that Roach and Zendaya have experimented with luminosity on the red carpet: the star famously wore a light-up gown inspired by Cinderella - with her stylist as the wand-waving fairy godmother - at the 2019 Met Gala.
The moment that Zendaya's dress transformed into its light-up version at the wave of a wand instantly made it forever embedded in Met Gala history - and went viral across social media.
