Zendaya fans are thanking the celeb for changing their lives with #loveforzendaya

Zendaya, 21, has inspired a generation, and now the generation is thanking her.

Zendaya’s fans have started a Twitter campaign, #loveforzendaya, and responses are pouring in. The hundreds of posts are a window into the wide world of Zendaya’s influence on everything from self-love to style to political activism.

“#loveforzendaya bc she was the one who made me feel comfortable enough to wear my natural hair and get bangs, it may sound dumb for some of y’all but you have no idea how much I used to hate myself for having curls, I used to find them disgusting, now I realize they are beautiful,” wrote a Twitter user who goes by @wakandapwr.

Zendaya has worked to help others embrace their natural hair, in part by speaking openly about her own hair journey. As she told the Cut, she grew up surrounded by white girls who didn’t appreciate her curls, and it affected her own perception of her style.

Because the school I went to was primarily Caucasian, there wasn’t anyone who had my hair texture,” she said. “I remember one day I straightened my hair and that was the first day that people gave me compliments on it. I didn’t quite respect and love what I had, hairwise. It took me awhile to appreciate the hair that I have and find it beautiful.” Now, Zendaya shares hair tutorials and isn’t afraid to experiment with different looks. It’s a relatable story that has clearly touched her fans.

Another fan, who calls herself Meg on Twitter, thanked Zendaya for “being a real model” of self-love and confidence. “I see u stand up for girls like me and I think wow she’s so confident maybe I should try,” she writes. That confidence means standing up for herself, like when Zendaya called out Modeliste Magazine for Photoshopping her waistline. “Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love,” she wrote. In response, she shared a side-by-side of the retouched and unretouched images.

Others are focused on Zendaya’s political work. “Zendaya inspires me and makes me believe that I CAN change the world,” wrote one fan.

Zendaya spoke at the Women’s March, is vocal about gun control, and made sure feminism was written into her Disney show K.C. Undercover. As she told Vogue, she went into negotiations with a list of demands that turned her character into a badass feminist. “I want her to be martial arts–trained. I want her to be able to do everything that a guy can do,” she said. “I want her to be just as smart as everybody else. I want her to be a brainiac. I want her to be able to think on her feet. But I also want her to be socially awkward, not a cool kid. I want her to be normal with an extraordinary life.”

Even when she’s using her platform to do A-list things like collaborate on a clothing line for BooHoo, fans are grateful that Zendaya understands their needs. “Can we just talk about the fact @Zendaya actually thought about us and how a lot of us don’t have a lot of money and can’t afford a lot so she put the prices down for her collab with BooHoo as low as possible just for us,” wrote another fan.

Zendaya explained the reasoning behind her line to WWD. “I know my fans, and I know what’s important to them. They are chic, fashion-forward, and love clothes, but like most people, wanna be able to ball on a budget. So I felt this was a perfect fit, to help them choose some easy pieces that aren’t just ‘trendy’ but also attainable,” she said. The clothes start as low as $5 and go up to only $100, and are sold in sizes 4 to 22, making Zendaya x BooHoo inclusive for all types of wallets and waistlines.

#Loveforzendaya hasn’t gone unnoticed by the woman herself. “Going through this #loveforzendaya tag…thank you, you all really make me so happy,” she wrote on Twitter. Judging by the sheer kindness and joy in their responses, it’s clear that the fans feel the same way.
