Rumours are swirling on social media that Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid got married in secret after his collaborator Ingrid Michaelson seemed to announce the news in an interview, sending Twitter into meltdown.

The speculation began after Michaelson, who collaborated with Zayn on her track To Begin Again, referred to the couple as being "married" during a livestream. She later took to her Instagram Stories to clarify her mistake, telling followers that Zayn isn't actually married, but by that point Twitter had gone wild.

During the original live Michaelson spoke about creating the track with Zayn, explaining that although they worked together on the song they have never actually met.

"We’ve never met, I've never spoken to him. Zayn doesn't do stuff he doesn't wanna do, and the fact that he did this song is very flattering," she explained. "He's such a private person and now he's married and has a child so, he does the things he wants to do.

"Luckily he wanted to do To Begin Again," she continued. "I hope we do meet one day so I can thank him in person, but I will respect his private ways because I feel very fortunate so many people are hearing it that would have never heard it without him lending his gorgeous voice to it."

Of course, this comment instantly sent Twitter into meltdown, and 'Zayn is married' quickly began trending.

Michaelson then posted a series of videos to her Instagram Story alerting fans to her mistake, saying, "Okay, so I talked about my new song featuring Zayn on my Patreon livestream and i might have said he was married, I was wrong.

"He is not married. All of you Zayn fans I’m so sorry to have brought you on this rollercoaster of emotions, I was mistaken. He’s not married, I’m so sorry."

Naturally this brought about a whole new wave of memes and tweets...

Neither Zayn nor Gigi have commented on the speculation, but with Ingrid clearly stating she made a mistake it seems like this may have just been a rumour that got out of hand. What a dramatic few hours?!
