It's truly royal baby season! Congratulations are in order for the Queen's granddaughter, Zara Tindall, who has just welcomed her third child with her husband, retired rugby player Mike Tindall. The couple have had a baby boy named Lucas Philip, in honour of his great grandfather, Prince Philip.
The newborn arrived so quickly he was delivered at the couple's Gloucestershire home, reports royal correspondent Rebecca English on Twitter. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson has since said: "The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news and look forward to meeting their 10th Great Grandchild when circumstances allow."
The birth of little Lucas comes just a month after his cousin, Princess Eugenie's baby August Philip Hawke Brooksbank was born. Both royal babies are named after the Duke of Edinburgh, who celebrates his 100th birthday in June this year, and who has recently returned home to Windsor Castle following a 28-day stay in hospital. Considering the boys' closeness in age, and in name, it looks like they might just have a ready-made best friend.
Zara and Mike Tindall already have two daughters together; six-year-old Mia, and two-year-old Lena. The news of their third pregnancy was shared on Mike's podcast 'The Good, The Bad & The Rugby', when the expectant dad told listeners he'd had "a good week" following a baby scan.
On the podcast, Mike made no secret of his hope to have a son this time around. "I'd like a boy this time," he told his co-hosts. "I've got two girls, I would like a boy, but I will love it whatever," he said, before going on to joke about what the couple might name the baby considering it was conceived in the midst of a pandemic. "We're not sure what to do. Covey, or Covina? Not sure where to go with the names," he told his fellow hosts.
Zara Tindall is a 'normal' citizen without a royal title - a choice made for both her and her brother, Peter Phillips, by their mother Princess Anne prior to their birth - so baby Lucas will join his mum, his sisters and his cousin August in not having a title himself.
Congratulations to the family on their new arrival!
