It seems like Zac Efron has had a year of self-discovery. First his Netflix documentary series Down To Earth aired, which saw him travel the world to find healthy, sustainable ways to live. Then he shunned Hollywood with a move to Byron Bay, Australia. And now? He's questioning societal expectations of handsome with his new haircut.

Or, er, maybe he just fancied a mullet. That could be an option too.

The High School Musical actor, who is currently in Australia for his latest project, Gold, slipped into a local barbers in Adelaide for a trim. Sharing the experience on Instagram @Attaboy wrote, "@zacefron dropped into @attaboy_hair Kent Town for a tidy up today, so we gave him a mullet 😂 He also gave the boss man, Robby, a trim - and made him feel 17 again 🤦🏼♂️ "

The comments were filled with people sharing their jealousy that the barbers got to meet Zac Efron - and their surprise at his new trim of choice. One person wrote, "Dang @zacefron hot as always 😍," while someone else put, "That’s a rad mullet 👏🏼" A third said, "Who thought we’d ever say mullets were this hot 🥴🤤"

First Miley, now Zac. Looks like the mullet is the haircut of 2021.

The last we heard from Zac Efron was his reported split from Vanessa Valladares in November 2020. After allegedly meeting in a Byron Bay cafe where she worked in June, the couple were spotted enjoying a skiing trip and holding hands.

But now it's looking like things weren't to be - according to a source at The Sun, despite Zac suggesting a move to Australia to be close to Vanessa, work commitments have put a strain on the couple.

"They'd started to look at a few places but, sadly, fate wasn't on their side," the insider claimed. "Zac's work and the enforced distance has really taken its toll. Friends hope they can reunite, but it seems their relationship was more like a holiday romance than they cared to admit."
