Ketchup is a staple in many a British home.

Whether you're putting it in a bacon bap, slathering it over chips or dipping chicken nuggets into it, the tomato sauce seems to go down a treat with everything.

However, opening bottles of the stuff can be tricky. As with most food packaging, it contains a seal to keep the sauce a fresh as possible.

While this protects the buyer, it can be a pain to get it off. You don't want to risk breaking a nail or squirting the ketchup everywhere, after all.

Thankfully though, there's a nifty trick to make the job easier. Social media user lalifehacks often shares handy hints on TikTok, and her latest hack has left people gobsmacked

In a recent clip, she said a lot of people "definitely don't know" how to do the trick. She demonstrated by unscrewing the lid of the bottle, and then using the hole in the lid to pierce the seal.

This makes a hole in the seal to enable sauce to be released from the bottle. When she squeezes the bottle, the sauce then comes out easily, with no issues at all.

She pointed out that you don't need to wrestle with the seal or grab any kitchen scissors – you can complete the task using the product itself. Genius!

The TikTokers tips didn't end there – as she also showed a handy way to reuse the bottles. One of her favourite tips is to repurpose it as a pancake mix dispenser.

After filling up a clean bottle with the mixture, she uses it to squeeze perfect pancake portions into a frying pan. Job done!

Many were grateful for the advice – as the clip has racked up more than 14,000 views. Many also took the time to leave comments of appreciation.

One person said: "Cool, I'll definitely remember this." Another wrote: "Been doing this for years." A third also replied: "TikTok is better than going to university."

Not everyone was impressed though, as one wrote: "If you were supposed to do that, they wouldn't put an easy to pull flap on it." And one more chimed in with: "Or you could just take the paper."
