Altuzarra's top runway looks for S/S'12. Will we see something similar at J.Crew?
Well, isn’t that Joseph Altuzarra having a very good year? America’s hottest new design export has been really notching up the accolades, awards, sell-out products, column inches and high profile fans over the past few months, but with the news that the Paris-born New York-based CFDA Fashion Fund winner is about to launch a collaboration with the US of A’s giant mass market retailer J.Crew, then we can safely say Mr Altuzarra has made it.
As you know, his wickedly dark Russian-babooshka-meets-the-military A/W’12 runway (and especially those three finale dresses) had us in a New York Fashion Week spin, and that we’re a little bit more-than-eager to see the result of him dressing and attending the coming MET Ball with the gorgeous and newly anointed fashion fixture Lana Del Rey. But now this?! Well, we’ve never wanted to book an international flight quite so much…
Le Roitfeld wearing Altuzarra's debut collection in 2009
Carine Roitfeld has long been a supporter of his eponymous label – and was the first to be photographed in the line after choosing a white coat from his debut Fall 2009 collection, and he can count Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Vanessa Traina amongst his fashion friends. But with J.Crew’s power-house president and creative director Jenna Lyons also behind the design whizz, his vibrant prints, sporty dresses and skinny pants could be about to hit a very new audience indeed. Of course, as with all exciting projects, everyone is keeping schtum. With Altuzarra only giving away a tiny slice of information. He told Fashionista that the collection "will be coming out in a few weeks". And that’s it folks. As soon as we have more information you’ll be the first to know.
