Yes, Prince Harry and the royal family will pay for (some of) the wedding

Traditionally, it’s the father of the bride that pays for their daughter’s wedding.

Though of course, plenty of modern families don’t really pay too much attention to tradition any more.

One family that usually does, however, is the royal family – which is why one could question who exactly is going to pay for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding on May 19.

The big day, according to Bridebook.co.uk, is expected to cost more than £2m – minus security provisions. So of course, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland aren’t expected to cough up for the wedding.

Which, according to The Sun‘s royal correspondent, Kensington Palace confirmed in a statement.

“As was the case with the wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Royal Family will pay for the core aspects of the wedding, such as the church service, the associated music, flowers, decorations, and the reception afterwards,” it read.

The less-glamorous aspect that won’t be covered by the royals, however, is security.

The Express reports that this is estimated to cost around £24m due to the UK’s current terrorism threat, Harry’s past military service in Afghanistan and racial threats made towards Markle.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding security apparently cost between £10m and £20m, going towards police officers, searches and rooftop snipers.

Despite this cost – which will likely fall on the taxpayer – the wedding is expected to provide an estimated £500m boost to Britain’s economy. So it depends on how you look at things.

At least Her Majesty has the flower arrangements covered, eh?
