‘Yellowstone’ Fans Are Shocked by Another Major Death

This story contains spoilers for season 5, episode 11 of Yellowstone.

There’s a new villain causing a ruckus in Yellowstone. Nameless assassins have infiltrated Montana—and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is using them to do his dirty work. A massive feud between Sheridan and lead actor Kevin Costner delayed the end of season 5 for nearly two years, forcing Sheridan to write a new ending for the series. Now that the series is finally back, Sheridan is finishing what he started in swift fashion.

John Dutton is dead. Sheridan wrote Costner’s character out of the series in the first five minutes of the mid-season premiere. He’s not the only major character to (controversially!) bite the dust so far. In the latest episode, Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) is also murdered by the show’s new hit squad. She may have ordered John’s death when season 5 finally returned, but it wasn’t the Dutton family who enacted their revenge.

Sarah’s death surprised Yellowstone fans. It seems as if Sheridan is saving something else for the finale, such as a potential showdown between Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Jamie (Wes Bentley). Still, even die-hard fans of the series are asking themselves the same questions: What the hell is happening?! So we went to X (formerly known as Twitter) to find out how audiences are feeling about Yellowstone’s shocking deaths so far. Honestly, I’m even afraid to ask how they’ll feel after the finale. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
