Yellowjackets season 2: What we know so far

Yellowjackets was definitely up there with the most shocking, hyped and binge-watch-worthy shows of 2021, albeit it gaining its popularity just via word of mouth. The Showtime drama aired its first season back in November of the same year and has since been nominated for *seven* Emmy Awards.

The series features two separate timelines - the first being 1996 when a New Jersey high school soccer team are on their way to a national tournament in Seattle. While flying over Ontario, the plane crashes, leaving the team members stranded in the deep wilderness. Chronicling their survival attempts over nineteen months, the second timeline focuses on their current lives in 2021.

So, as fans gear up to find out what happens in season two (also big news - Yellowjackets has been renewed for a third season as well), here's everything we know so far about the next instalment of the thriller series...

When will Yellowjackets season two be released?

Back on 30th August, the show's Instagram page announced that filming had begun, which gave us hope that 2023 would be the year of the show's return.

Luckily, we were spot on, as Showtime revealed a short trailer just three weeks ago, announcing that season two will come out on March 24th. The teaser also featured plenty of clues about what to expect...

Who might star in Yellowjackets season two?

The season two casting provides an insight as to who survived the Ontario wilderness and lived to tell the tale.

Of course, the core four characters have been recast for round two, with Christina Ricci and Melanie Lynskey reprising their Emmy-nominated roles as Misty and Shauna. Juliette Lewis and Tawny Cypress will also return, playing their respective roles, Natalie and Taissa/Tai.

It's been reported the actors who play the younger versions of these characters are also coming back. That's Samantha Hanratty as Misty, Sophie Nélisse as Shauna, Sophie Thatcher as Natalie and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Tai.

According to Variety back in August, Showtime also announced that Simone Kessell, Princess Leia’s mum in Obi-Wan Kenobi will be portraying modern-day Lottie.

Servant actor Lauren Ambrose was then confirmed to play the adult version of Van around the same time.

Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood was next to be added to the new cast list, starring as Citizen Detective Walter.

Plus, in December 2022, it was confirmed that Lynksey's real-life husband will appear in one episode of the show, too.

Is there a storyline for Yellowjackets season two?

Speaking to Deadline, Showtime president Gary Levine gave some insight on what to expect from season two but was very cryptic.

"I do know that there will be some surprises in terms of the characters," he said.

"There are still lots of questions about who survived, what happened out there. There will be some real surprises in terms of that and I think some characters you may not even have met yet."

Showrunner and co-creator Bart Nickerson has also remained tight-lipped about the potential plotlines, telling The Wrap that "we, as a show, won’t tease the audience with things. I hate that as a viewer."

However, he did reveal - along with his wife, writing partner, and fellow co-creator Ashley Lyle - that viewers will find out what happened to Shauna's baby, who fans met in the 1996 timeline.

Adding that the present-day timeline hasn't "met all the survivors" yet, they also shared that the man who lived in the cabin will be explored more.

The suspense is too much!
