Yellow Eyeliner Is The Perfect Summer Beauty Look

When there's a heatwave and your face is just a pool of sweat and grease, the last thing you want to do is put on makeup. Summer is the season of minimalism, yes, but it's also the season of palm trees and flamingos and all bright everything-and all of that technicolor dreaminess applies to makeup, too. The key is to go for low effort and high impact. Case in point: the yellow eyeliner trend bubbling up on Instagram.

Yellow as a shade communicates sunniness, happiness, levity, vivacity. It's like shorthand for summer, embodied. Because it is so bright and slightly unexpected, wearing it also means you don't have to do much else to the rest of your face. You also don't have to use very much yellow eyeliner, or employ any complex technique.

I first spotted the look on makeup artist Nina Park's Instagram-she did it on Amandla Stenberg for the CFDA Awards in early June. Her weapon of choice was the new-ish Diorshow On Stage Liner in Matte Yellow (it was introduced backstage during Dior's Fall 2018 show in February). The sunny hue looked striking with Amandla's otherwise natural-looking makeup: a bare face, glossy lips, bold brows. Consider it my aesthetic for the rest of the season.
