The X Factor champion Shayne Ward is to become a father for the second time.

The 2005 winner of Simon Cowell's singing contest has revealed his fiancée Sophie Austin is set to give birth to a baby girl five years after the arrival of their daughter Willow.

The former Coronation Street star tells Hello! magazine he and Sophie have been trying to conceive a sibling for Willow for a while.

"I would always say to Sophie: 'I know in my gut and in my heart of hearts that we are going to have more children,'" he explains. "There was no two ways about it. We never gave up. It's been a whirlwind.

"And 16 years after I appeared on The X Factor, I have a beautiful family and one on the way. I am on cloud nine. It's amazing that we're going to have another girl to add to the Ward clan."

The couple initially tried to conceive through IVF, but Sophie admitted their efforts had a detrimental effect on her mental health.

"I've never felt so depressed and low in my whole life," she reveals, before adding that Shayne refused to give up and eventually they conceived naturally.

"I think it was Shayne's positivity and belief that kept me going," she adds. "I would be saying: 'We need to accept this might not happen,' and he would refuse."

The singer-turned-actor concludes: "Basically, it's in the hands of God in a sense. I always knew a good thing was coming."

The couple had been planning to get married before the Covid-19 pandemic hit - but may now delay their plans again with a baby on the way.
