Why more women than ever before watching porn is a good thing

Women are watching more porn than ever before, a new study has revealed.

Last year, the search term ‘porn for women’ saw a spike of 359% among female users of Pornhub, the Internet’s biggest X-rated site.

According to The Sun, rival site xHamster said that the number of it’s female users also rose 2.4% worldwide.

Speaking about the findings Dr Laurie Betito, director of Pornhub’s Sexual Wellness Center, said: “2017 seems to have been the year where women expressed their desires more openly.

“Women are feeling more empowered. This is a sign of things to come.”

What’s fuelling this female surge in porn viewing?

Sex and relationship expert Tracey Cox, who has her own ranges of sex toys with Lovehoney, believes that watching porn, sexy films and reading erotic literature is one of the secrets of maintaining you sexual ‘mojo’.

“Research suggests women who have a ‘library’ of arousing images in their head – usually created by reading erotic stories or watching sexy films – are significantly better at arousing themselves spontaneously,” she tells Yahoo Style UK.

“Simply by thinking about a particular passage in the book or scene in the movie, they get an instant libido boost.”

Women shouldn’t feel guilty about watching porn, she stresses.

“It’s not rocket science to suggest that reading or watching something sexy makes you feel like sex,” Tracey explains.

“Take Fifty Shades of Grey – the best-selling book in Britain since records began. Yes, it’s a love story but it’s primarily a sex story. It makes women feel horny again and when you haven’t lusted after your partner for a very, very long time, this is a welcome response.”

“It’s hard to keep lust going long-term but desire is a decision and you don’t need a partner to turn yourself on, we’re all perfectly capable of doing it ourselves. Could it really be as simple as reading a racy book or watching erotica for 20 minutes a day?”

In fact, Tracey believes watching porn can have a huge influence on your real life sex life.

“One British website found 68 per cent of women who searched ‘Fifty Shades’ – nicknamed ‘Mummy porn’ – looked online for lingerie afterwards,” she explains. “It sparks a greater interest in sex and experimentation and that can be good for a relationship.”

And those wondering what it means if you like watching porn, shouldn’t worry.

“It means you are curious about sex,” she explains. “Women might not watch online porn as much as men but they’re well up for reading erotica – and get equally as aroused by it.”
