We’ve all done it: spent a night scrolling through Pinterest seeking our newest hairstyle or outfit inspiration. With the leagues of bloggers dedicated to providing daily style inspiration, it’s not such a foreign concept to seek common trends among others and replicate it in your own way. And they do say imitation is the finest form of flattery.

But what about copying a particular look down to the designer? One fan of the British royals has shown its possible to dress like a princess without breaking the bank. Twenty nine-year-old Mallory Bowling has been a fan of the royal family for most of her life and over the past few years she has committed to replicating the Duchess of Cambridge’s classic look.

Part of a community dedicated to copying Kate’s style, the RepliKates commit to mirroring the Duchess’s classic looks. For Bowling, her imitation hobby fits perfect with the attorney’s everyday style.

“Her style is so classic. It’s not just a trend. The so-called Kate effect means that clothes like that are far easier to come by,” Bowling told the Daily Mail. “Her style is very similar to mine, as well. I like the formality of it all, as it means I can wear it to work.”

With a whole community of like-minded fashion fans, Bowling admits the close-knit group will work together to achieve exact replications of the Duchess’s style looks. From trawling the internet to identify different articles of clothing to purchasing pieces that are only available in certain countries, the community helps each other achieve their #DuchessFashionGoals.

“It’s a lot easier if someone’s already identified where Kate’s clothes are from. If not, the RepliKate community will do a very comprehensive search and we’ll quickly track the retailer down,” she said. “A lot of the girls are very creative. Some even make their own clothes and we all help each other out. For example, if something isn’t available to buy in the country one of us lives in, we’ll ask if someone else can try and get it where they are instead.”

With family living in the UK, Bowling admits she was raised on British culture. As a fan of the monarchy for most of her life, Bowling first became aware of Kate Middleton while she was a studying at the College of William and Mary in Virginia in 2006.

As such a royal superfan, Bowling even included a British theme at her wedding this October. Her husband wore Union Jack cufflinks while Bowling sported a tiara just like the Duchess’s. Their wedding cake was an exact replica of the one at the 2011 royal wedding. As for the engagement? Bowling’s husband proposed at the Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

“I didn’t want an exact copy of her dress, but it had elements that were the same, like a long train and A-line shape,” she said.

But the Duchess isn’t the only fashion icon Bowling has been style-stalking, she also imitates the apple of Prince Harry’s eye, Meghan Markle.

“I’ve loved Meghan ever since she was in Suits, which I used to watch at law school. I love the more casual style she has, and how much she does for the U.N., so I was very excited when she and Harry got together,” she admits.

Despite dressing down to the designer, Bowling is quite proud of her ability to recreate looks without spending the extortionate prices.

“I’ve never paid full price for a Kate item, though.”
