A woman has gone viral on TikTok after warning other users not to consume too many energy drinks, following a scary incident where her husband's "heart stopped."

Meagan Shreve posted a clip describing a terrifying and unforgettable night in January when she woke up to her husband feeling unwell, LadBible reports.

The clip, captioned: "Please. Put. Down. The. Energy. Drinks" has gone viral, with over five million views so far. She starts by saying: "I've become the obnoxious person that tells you that energy drinks are dangerous and you need to stop drinking them."

She goes on to explain that her husband woke in the middle of the night with a racing heart and numb feet and hands. He insisted on being taken to the hospital, certain he was having a heart attack.

He was taken to a triage room and within a minute he lost consciousness, his heart stopped and he had to be revived.

"It was all fast, it was all scary," she explained. "There was literally nothing I could do."

After a while, she was told that he was awake but his ribs had been broken during the resuscitation process. After that he was put onto a heart monitor for "five to six weeks" but no one could figure out exactly what was wrong with him.

She says that the doctors finally concluded that he was dehydrated and also consuming too many energy drinks.

Meagan added in TikTok comments that her husband had been drinking around "two to three" of them a day, plus coffee.

Many people expressed sympathy and shock in the comments, with one person writing: "I don’t know why people drink more than one. It blows my mind."

Another added: "My cardiologist believes that these drinks will all be eventually banned. They’re starting to see as little as one a day are causing cardiac issues."

Bupa UK say a safe daily amount of caffeine for those over the age of 18 is up to 400mg (about four or five cups of coffee).

The NHS recommends drinking caffeine "in moderation" and says some are "more sensitive" to it than others. One particularly popular leading brand of energy drink contains a whopping 160mg of caffeine per can.

“If you’re somebody who’s downing two, three, four energy drinks a day, I would highly encourage you to stop,” Meagan warns at the end of the video.

She finished by saying: "Even if you don’t want to quit for yourself, do it for the people in your life, because this is something that I’ve never been able to get over.”
