A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after an incident that closed a main road in both directions in Wiltshire.

It happened on the busy stretch of the A350 between Westbury and Warminster at around lunchtime on March 23.

Issuing an update, spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “This is in relation to a mental health incident. A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

The incident at around 12 noon led to traffic queuing and long delays.

Police and paramedics from the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance responded to the incident.

Locals urged motorists to avoid the road, saying: "Serious crash. Air ambulance and police in attendance.

"Road closed up as far as Warminster services roundabout. Long delays."

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said they had received a call from police but their attendance was not required as the incident was “sensitive”.
