The Duke of Cambridge has opened up about how his role with the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre has helped him to impress his four-year-old son George.

Yesterday, William met with the organisation – of which he has been a patron for four years – and commented on how impressed the little prince has been with what he has had the opportunity to do with the centre.

"Along the way I have demolished a building – George was at an age at the time that he loved seeing the digger in action, so it did my street cred as a father the world of good," he said.

The Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre, which is located in Loughborough and officially opened yesterday, aims to help members of the armed forces who have suffered with trauma. The £300 million centre ensures that injured soldiers, sailors and airmen are looked after and get the best possible care.

As well as attending the opening of the new centre, William was also celebrating his 36th birthday yesterday. Kensington Palace took to Twitter to thank everyone for their lovely messages.
