Alright, hands up - who literally didn't take their slip skirt off this summer? Whether it was & Other Stories's leopard print dupe or the real deal (aka 'The Naomi') from Realisation Par, what was once considered merely lingerie really took over our lives (and wardrobes).

And it's not hard to see why. The skirt is super flattering, light and incredibly comfortable in warm weather. But it's also one of the most multi-purpose pieces of clothing you probably own. By which we mean, absolutely don't demote it to the back of your wardrobe now you're struggling to get out of bed.

Slips skirts in Winter? Absolutely yes. The key to making your slip transition easily is layering, of course. Whether it's a chunky knit or jazzy pair of tights, add an extra article of clothing and you're good to go.

And if you're yet to make your first slip purchase, you're in luck. The item has proved so versatile, skirts of all iterations are popping up all over the place.

Take Topshop's slip skirts, for example, which graced the lower-half of every other influencer. The high street giant have just re-released the skirt in a plethora of colours and designs.

And if you can't be bothered to dress in this dreary weather (same), printed and patterned versions are a joyful (and easy) addition to even the most tired of Monday morning looks.

If you need inspiration, one of the style's main advocates is Monikh Dale. Her Instagram is something of an ode to all things bias-cut.

The fashion stylist and writer proves that while these skirts might be flimsy, they definitely should't be saved for warmer climes. As you can you see from her posts, the skirt arguably looks best paired with comfy knits.

Perhaps the most appealing things is it's ability to swiftly take you from office to party.

December means endless drinks catch-ups with old friends, new work colleagues and everyone in-between. For this, the glittered variety will smooth the transition from desk-side to downing drinks. Simply whack on a pair of jazzy flats and you're officially Christmas party ready.

Thankfully, there are plenty of sequinned slip skirts out there, too. From Zara's animal print version's to Ganni's joyful creation, all provide maximum impact with minimal effort.

Little fuss and loads of 'oomph'? This is a style we're buying into.
