Like many beauty editors, I'm a big Dyson Airwrap fan. But I'm also the first person to mention what a huge investment it is, and that it shouldn't be bought on a whim. When people tell me they're going to take the plunge, I often tell them to wait until they can take advantage of the Black Friday deal.

Here's what you need to know about the Dyson Airwrap if you're considering buying one, and where to get the best price. Plus, which colourway to choose – they're all too pretty, it's a touch decision...

What makes the Dyson Airwrap so popular?

Dyson is a true innovator in the industry, meaning many alternatives have followed but I'vr found that the results often fall short of the real thing. The Airwrap was the first of its kind, using Dyson's special airflow technology – the Coanda Effect – which is an aerodynamic phenomenon that, when propelled at the correct pressure and speed, attracts airflow to the hair to wrap itself around the barrel while curling through this air vortex. Clever, right? Plus, it has a smart temperature control to minimise heat damage.

So what does this mean for your hair? It gives roots volume and big bouncy curls that look as though they were professionally blow-dried and meticulously pinned up and left to set.

Dyson Airwrap attachments

The attachments also set the Airwrap apart from others on the market when it launched, proving as an all-in-one hair tool that the hefty price tag was a smart investment.

The Airwrap Multi-Styler comes with six attachments—40 mm Airwrap long barrel, 30mm Airwrap long barrel, large round volumising brush, diffuser, flyaway smoother and firm smoothing brush. Plus, a filter cleaning brush, detangling comb and case. There are other Accessories you can buy, including the Coanda smoothing dryer and soft smoothing brush.

The reason I love the Airwrap is because it's brilliant if you're someone like me who falls into the 'pretty rubbish at doing my own hair' category. It definitely takes time to get used to it (like most hair tools), but it's worth spending a minute getting to know because once you master it, you likely won't go back to anything else.

I'm also someone who uses all of the attachments. I use the round brush if I want movement without a curl, I use the smoothing brush if I'm in a rush and just want my hair dried fast and I use the Airwrap attachment when I want curls. Because I have long, fine and straight hair, my curls drop faster with this than they do a regular curling tong.

However, they last longer once they're set, than with a curling tong. Long story short: If I take the time to properly set my curls in rollers after using the Airwrap, it's like hair magic that lasts days and days – just like a salon blow-dry.
