It's safe to say that breakups are hard, and we all deal with them differently, with some of us opting to take up permanent residence under our duvet covers while others keep busy with nights out with pals. It's no wonder then, that even when you're an A-Lister celebrity, splitting from your ex isn't the easiest.

Taking to Instagram this week, Shawn Mendes, who recently broke up with his girlfriend of two years, Camila Cabello, revealed he's having a "hard time" in light of his split – especially when it comes to social media.

"I just wanted to make a little video and say thank you to everybody who has been connecting with 'It'll Be Okay' and posting videos," the 23-year-old told his 65.9 million followers. "I'm having a little bit of a hard time with social media at the moment and just kind of my relationship with it."

He then went on to explain how his music is an outlet for his emotions, particularly as he deals with his breakup. "When I make music, the ultimate goal is to be sitting there and have my own truth revealed to me. And a lot of the time when I'm writing songs I'm usually using music as a platform to be able to get to a place inside of myself that I wouldn't be able to through just talking with people or thinking about it," he added.

His emotional message comes just a few weeks after he released his track I'll Be Okay – which features some seriously emotional lyrics – following his split from Camila, who has kept relatively quiet in the wake of their breakup.
