Despite quite literally being born on TV and being a member of perhaps the most famous family on the planet – second only to the royals, of course – Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick's 12-year-old son, Mason Disick, has apparently decided to take a step back from the limelight.

But, while the youngster's decision to keep his life as low-key as possible may come as a shock to some fans, particularly those who watched him grow up on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, others have praised the way his wishes are being respected by his family – especially mum Kourtney and step-dad Travis Barker, who have earned a reputation for themselves when it comes to being very public about their private life.

'I like seeing Mason there but totally like how respectful they are of not posting pics of him,' one fan wrote in a Reddit thread about a series of 'family' photos that Travis had shared on Instagram. 'I like seeing him too, he’s the first baby,' said another person, 'So neat seeing him grow up [but] I like that they respect him saying no too.'

Some Kardashian fans were unsure about why Mason wasn't included in the photos, and took the opportunity to question what the deal is.

'I'm lost, did Mason say he didn’t wanna be online anymore?' asked one Redditer, to which someone else responded: 'Kourtney has implied he didn't want his Mum posting pics of him without his consent. He is usually always with them but he doesn't want it on social media. [sic]'

Over on Instagram, where Travis shared the family snaps, one person commented on Mason's notable absence. 'He said he didn’t want to show his face and his family has respected that,' a fan replied, with someone else adding: 'He doesn’t like having his picture taken so out of respect for his wishes they don’t post pictures of him anymore, he’s usually always with them tho [sic].'

So, what can we learn about boundaries from the situation?

Perhaps the biggest lesson to take away from Mason's decision to remove himself from the public eye is that people are allowed to change their minds when it comes to boundaries and the ilk – like consent.

Just because someone's always done something, it doesn't mean they always have to continue doing so. Yes, Mason was born on TV. Yes, he grew up through the screens of Kardashian fans the world over. Yes, he's been a recurring face on social media for over a decade. But does that entitle us – or anyone, for that matter – to have a front row seat to his private life? Absolutely not. Unless, of course, he decides otherwise.
