Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger welcomed their first child together last year, and have since opened up about why they won't be sharing photos of her on social media.

In August 2020, the pair took to social media to share the happy news, sharing a picture of her tiny little hand on Instagram. "We are beyond thrilled to announce the birth of our daughter Lyla Maria Schwarzenegger Pratt," they wrote. "We couldn’t be happier and we feel extremely blessed! Love, Katherine and Chris."

Since then, the pair have kept their daughter relatively shielded from the spotlight, with Chris only giving fans a glimpse of Lyla's face with an emoji over it to celebrate Katherine's birthday in December.

Now, Chris and Katherine have explained why they made the decision to hide their child's face, and it actually makes a lot of sense. "Obviously, I didn't grow up with social media being a thing at all, so it's a little bit different in that way just because I feel like we share so much in today's world," Katherine told Today.

Referring to her own famous parent, actor Arnold Shwarzenegger, Katherine continued, "But I think one of the greatest gifts that my parents ever gave me and my siblings is the gift of privacy and having a really normal upbringing, or as normal of an upbringing as possible."

The author added: "We had a really normal and magical childhood, and we were allowed to kind of be our own people and have our own identity and kind of choose to step into whatever form of being public we wanted to when we felt comfortable.

"It's something that's really important to my husband and I to be able to give to our kids and to be able to have that privacy, and not necessarily show as much of them on social media."

Sounds sensible, and also is along the lines of how many celebrities choose to raise their children. Katherine and Chris got engaged in January 2019 after seven months together and married in June 2019. Lyla is their first child together, and Chris's second child after his eight-year old son Jack who he shares with ex-wife Anna Faris.
