Over the weekend KUWTK star Caitlyn Jenner announced her bid to run for governor of California, sharing the news on Instagram along with the caption, "I'm in!"However the announcement has been met with a huge backlash online due to her previous support of Donald Trump, with some calling the move a "vanity" campaign.

Late last week Caitlyn Jenner shared a picture with followers on Instagram that showed she had filed the necessary paperwork to run for governor of California, challenging the incumbent governor Gavin Newsom.

Jenner, a longtime Republican famously voted for Trump in 2016. She later spoke out against his administration for it's actions over the rights of transgender people but for many the damage had already been done. Now she is facing criticism for her political bid with a number of LGBTQ+ groups speaking out against her campaign.

Many feel that the support of Trump and right-wing conservative policies is at odds with someone claiming to support the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Meanwhile others feel the former olympian and reality TV star is unqualified for a role in politics, with many drawing parallels between her political bid and that of Trump, saying that they do not want another reality TV star in a crucial political role.

Star Trek actor and LGBTQ+ activist George Takei reacted to the news the following day saying, "Black people wouldn’t vote for Candace Owen for office. The disabled community wouldn’t vote for Madison Cawthorn. I’m LGBTQ but I won’t be voting for Caitlyn Jenner. Just so we’re clear."

Meanwhile, a report from TMZ suggests that Jenner's famous family, the Kardashians, will not be campaigning for her election. It states that Jenner told the family the news before she announced it officially, never expecting them to campaign for her, and that her politics is too at odds with that of the Kardashian-Jenners who have supported the Democrats in recent elections.
