The Met Gala is often a reliable red carpet for catching a glimpse of your favourite celebrity, and the likes of Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Madonna turned up last night to show off their best interpretation of the theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.

But one person who wasn't in attendance was Beyoncé, much to her fans the Beyhive's dissatisfaction:

The singer, who recently slayed at Coachella for two nights in April, has shunned fashion's big night for the past two years, failing to make an appearance at the ceremony or red carpet in 2017, either.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Bey was actually planning on attending the Gala in New York City last night [Monday 7 May], but husband JAY-Z instead booked her a surprise holiday.

"JAY-Z surprised her with a trip because he felt she needed to relax before her tour," the source commented, referring to the couple's upcoming On the Run II tour.

It's unknown how late the singer bailed on the Met Gala, but ET report she had planned to wear a custom gown designed by DUNDAS, whom their source says had had been working for weeks on the custom creation.

Uh oh.

Many fans are pointing out that Bey's 2017 GRAMMYs outfit, which saw her don a celestial sun style head dress to perform 'Love Drought' and 'Sandcastles' from Lemonade, would actually have fitted the Met Gala theme, so maybe she's just further ahead of us than we ever know.
