Not a fan of waking with the birds for an early-morning flight? While it may be a struggle getting out of bed, new research has revealed that early flights are less likely to be delayed than those in the afternoon or evening.

According to Travel and Leisure, data from FiveThirtyEight found that leaving before 8am is best for avoiding delays and the peak flight delay time is 6pm.

The reason for this is air traffic. Forbes reports that airspace is less likely to be crowded in the morning as all flights from the night before have already landed.

You're also less likely to experience turbulence in the morning as most thunderstorms and unstable air happen in the afternoon.

What's more, early-morning flights are usually cheaper.
