Hands down, Aubrey Plaza won the award for most viral outfit at last night’s Primetime Emmy Awards. The actress wore a light yellow Loewe dress featuring a square-shaped top that the Internet agreed looked like a Post-It Note fastened with a pin.
Almost immediately after she was spotted arriving on the carpet, viewers started going wild with creative memes. One of the funniest was the X user who imprinted the notorious breakup Post-It message left for Carrie Bradshaw by ex-boyfriend Jack Berger in Sex and The City: “I’m sorry. I can’t. Don’t hate me.”
Other memes collected by HuffPost included infamous quotes from reality TV shows like The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and Jersey Shore. Another playful user created Plaza’s imaginary Emmy Awards to-do list, which included: Eat Breakfast, Edit Photos, Slay, Sleep.
Plaza’s only comment on her eye-brow raising gown was a sly smile on the red carpet. She paired the dress, which also featured revealing cut-out sides, with chunky gold platform sandals.
It wasn’t her first controversial awards show fashion moment. Plaza fidgeted with the revealing criss-cross straps of her dress during the 2023 SAG awards in February, sparking a debate over whether or not she was having a wardrobe malfunction. Plaza’s stylist Jessica Paster finally weighed in to confirm the look was intentional. “Did seven fittings … for real I wanted underboob,” Paster commented on social media.
On Monday night’s Primetime Emmy Awards, Plaza was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work in White Lotus, but lost to co-star Jennifer Coolidge.
