Angelina Jolie has shared the very personal reason she doesn't dwell on getting older.

In a new interview with British Vogue, the 45-year-old Oscar-winning actress and humanitarian explained that she sees ageing as a 'victory' since her mother died in her 50s after an 8-year battle with cancer.

'I do like being older. I feel much more comfortable in my forties than I did when I was younger,' she told Vogue.

'Maybe because… I don’t know… maybe because my mom didn’t live very long, so there’s something about age that feels like a victory instead of a sadness for me.'

She also acknowledged that the last few years have been difficult for her and her six children — pandemic aside — after a messy divorce and ensuing custody battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt, from whom she separated in 2016. That's given her renewed focus to feel positive about the future, she says.

'The past few years have been pretty hard. I’ve been focusing on healing our family. It’s slowly coming back, like the ice melting and the blood returning to my body,' Jolie explained. 'I’m not there yet. But I hope to be. I’m planning on it.'

She added: 'I’m looking forward to my fifties—I feel that I’m gonna hit my stride'.
