Why a Fake Magazine Cover Starring Chrissy Teigen Is Going Viral

From “Belly fat blasting tricks” to “10 ways to look younger,” to “Mistakes you’re making with your hard-earned money,” the taglines on many fashion and beauty magazines aren’t exactly sending body acceptance messages.

That’s why this illustrated cover featuring Chrissy Teigen is going viral. The parody of Women’s Health, which has been viewed nearly 2 million times since being posted to Imgur earlier this week, includes a number of fake headlines that satirizes the beauty standards that many publications perpetuate.

“Didn’t think you were fat? You are!” reads one, while another below says, “Even if you do this absurd workout, you won’t look like her because Photoshop!” Some other mock captions include: “31 things to buy to make men like you more (because then you’ll be happy!)” and “Money: money is a medium of exchange. We have some condescending tips for women who have to make decisions about it.”

The fake cover is a riff off a September 2015 Women’s Health U.K. cover featuring Teigen, with actual headlines like “Shrink your sugar belly,” “Eat up + slim down,” and “The new ways to age-proof your face.”

While Women’s Health is of course just an example — many magazines are guilty of doing this — the drawing certainly still strikes a chord.
