With the frockathon of award season over and Coachella wrapping up last weekend, us Graziettes are desperate for a fash-travaganza to tide us over until the Fashion Week circus begins in September — so hurrah for the Met Ball that's set to take place on 7th May (yeep!). In the build up, designers have been revealing who their A-list dates will be and it's got us super excited.
As in previous years, designers will bring along a high-profile guest — typically a model, actress or model-slash-actress — who will showcase their creations on the mammoth red carpet. In the past, we've seen such heavenly pairings as Alexander McQueen and Sarah Jessica Parker, Karl Lagerfeld and Blake Lively, Stella McCartney and Rihanna, Christopher Bailey and Emma Watson to name but a few, so what can we expect this time round?
Lana Del Rey in Vivienne Westwood at the Brit Awards; a Autumn Winter 2012 Altuzarra design
Well, we know Joseph Altuzarra has selected Lana Del Rey and the hottest American brand teaming up with the hottest singing sensation can only equal a sizzling style moment, right? Thing is, the sumptuous singer is not one to go Gaga-tacular on the red carpet, prefering classic, elegant gowns to meat dresses and choosing to wear only a minimalist swimsuit for her latest music video. Meanwhile, Altuzarra's Autumn Winter 2012 collection saw flamboyant gypsy-style pieces covered in brightly-coloured tiers and sparkling embellishments teamed with black leather boots that don't quite fit Lana's self-proclaimed 'gangsta Nancy Sinatra' style. So might the designer return to his roots and dress LDR in a simple silk slip with spaghetti straps?
Isabel Lucas in Louis Vuitton at the 2011 Met Ball; a Autumn Winter 2012 Proenza Schouler design
And today, The Cut reports that Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez will escort Isabel Lucas. The Australian actress has long been on our style radar thanks to her hipster style so it's no wonder the New York design duo have hand-picked her. For last year's gala, the Proenzas were accompanied by Kristen Stewart, who looked nonchantly cool in a printed sheath dress, while La Lucas showcased a coral silk satin gown by Louis Vuitton, topped off with a gold headpiece and matching statement earrings to match her boho style. Here's hoping she'll walk the red carpet this year in one of those eye-catching prints.
But for now, all we can do is speculate so stay tuned for more announcements as the date approaches...
