Whoopi Goldberg shares role she wants in Doctor Who
Whoopi Goldberg has been campaigning to join Doctor Who for years — and she has pitched to play a very important character in the series.
The View co-host is a super-fan of the BBC science fiction series, having often been rumoured as a contender to play The Doctor in the last several years.
During a recent chat with Graham Norton for Virgin Radio, she explained that committing to Doctor Who isn't possible due to her busy schedule, but that doesn't mean she's ruling out a guest role.
"I am busy, but if a random Doctor Who came along, I could do it," she said. "I understand I'm not going to be the new Black Doctor Who but… I can be in Doctor Who."
When Graham suggested she could play someone "related to Doctor Who", Whoopi agreed: "I think I could be Who's cousin! Boo Who!"
Goldberg is no stranger to the sci-fi genre, having memorably played the alien bartender Guinan on Star Trek: The Next Generation and, more recently, in Star Trek: Picard.
She also appeared in the TV version of Stephen King's The Stand, is expected to return for the long-waited third Sister Act movie on Disney+ and recently filmed the acclaimed drama Till.
The comedian and actress somehow finds the time to film all of these projects while still co-hosting US morning show The View five days a week.
Perhaps she's already using a TARDIS to be in multiple places at once?
Doctor Who returns in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+. Classic Doctor Who streams on BritBox in the UK.
