Prince William and Kate Middleton are one of those couples we all aspire to be like one day, along with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. But even the best relationships go through some tricky times, much like Kate and Will did back in 2007.

If you weren’t already aware, the couple once called time on their relationship for a brief period. Media speculation at the time suggested the break-up occurred in early 2007, shortly after William graduated as an army officer, although Royal Family officials never confirmed it at the time.

They weren’t apart for very long before getting they got back together in June 2007, but during that breakup period, Kate actually jetted off to another country to process their split.

According to The Express, the Duchess of Cambridge flew to Ireland with her mum, Carole Middleton, and visited Dublin. Apparently, she was joined by a group of friends on a private jet, and attended her first exhibition at the Urban Retreat Gallery as well as the National Gallery of Ireland.

We don’t know specifically when the breakup occurred but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were once quite open about their brief separation during their engagement interview with ITV in 2010.

"We were both very young," William explained, when asked why the pair split. "It was at university, we were sort of both finding ourselves as such and being different characters and stuff, it was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up," the Prince continued.

"It was just sort of a bit of space and a bit of things like that, and it worked out for the better," he revealed.

"I think I... at the time wasn't very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person," Kate added.

"You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn't realised, or I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you are younger and I really valued that time for me as well although I didn't think it at the time. Looking back on it."

Thankfully, they’ve smoothed it all over and seem to be happier than ever.
