'Whenever I wear this tinted moisturiser, people say I have great skin'

"This hero beauty buy wins me so many compliments'Matteo Scarpellini

I’m used to people asking me about my skin; I’m a beauty editor. Mostly it’s a broad and freewheeling conversation: which brands do I recommend, where do I have my facials, who do I see for injectables; that kind of thing.

There is though, one product so guaranteed to have someone ask what I’m wearing on my face that exact minute that it almost feels like fishing. ‘What skincare did you use today?’, someone will be dazzled into asking and I will happily out myself by admitting that actually, it’s not entirely skincare but a glowy tinted moisturiser, and yes, I will wait while they tap the unfamiliar name into their phone and click to buy, despite the spicy price tag.

Meet The Super Tinted Hydrator

A bottle of U Beauty The Super Tinted Hydrator will set you back by £98 but is worth every penny. The caveat that usually applies to very expensive skincare or makeup is also true here; you only need use the tiniest amount for the intended benefit, which in this case is skin that looks like it's been polished with a soft cloth to a glassy beam.

Unusually for something that looks more like skincare than makeup, it also has a good amount of coverage. It takes down redness, disguises shadowy areas and even softens the impact of any blemishes you have. What it will never do is catch on dry patches, make pores seem more obvious or get snared up in those tiny, soft hairs on your cheek. Neither will it sink into any fine lines (though you won’t be able to see those so much now, anyway).

I have half a pump of it on the back of my hand as I write: it’s a buildable glossy emulsion that needs working in with your fingers before it fully disappears, but when it does you will look in the mirror and think, ‘Yes, my skin is this good’ and feel incredibly pleased with yourself.

And here’s the weird thing; even I fall for it. I’ve been as close as you can get to U Beauty’s founder, Tina Chen Craig, who has the most ridiculously glassy skin I have ever seen. Every time I meet with her for breakfast or over Zoom, I ask what she has on her face. She is, of course, always wearing this, though she is also famously sun-avoidant and takes scrupulously good care of her complexion.

The 10 shades are stretchy, too. I'm a number 03 but so are a couple of close friends, an ex-beauty director of mine and a handful of editors and PRs who also love The Tinted Super Hydrator – and we're by far identical in skin tone.

What is The Beauty Super Tinted Hydrator

It's a skincare-makeup hybrid – and there are long-term benefits. This tinted version is a modification of the original non-tintedThe Super Hydrator and it shares U Beauty’s unique SIREN capsule technology; a delivery system that zones in on areas of free radical damage before depositing powerful actives exactly where they are needed and nowhere else. In this way, Chen Craig created a cult skincare line that ‘meets your skin where it is now, to correct, prevent and defend’ without overloading it with potentially irritating ingredients such as retinoids or Vitamin C.

What's in The Super Tinted Hydrator?

Ingredients include powerful antioxidants such as glutathione and superoxide dismutase; hydrating and moisturising agents squalane, ceramides and hyaluronic acid; mandelic, salicylic glycolic and lactobionic acids... basically everything you need for long term care as well as instant dew and hydration. Skin looks calm, even and lively, and feels supple and comfy. Can you tell how much I love it?

While I can't say that spending just shy of £100 on a tinted moisturiser is a prudent thing to do, this is an enormously rewarding product with an excellent cost-to-wear ratio, so if you're tempted to buy a Super Tinted Hydrator then I totally back you.

And hey, has anyone told you lately you have great skin?
